WHY I AM RIDING

July 1, 2008, I will be participating in my first Saddle Up 4 Good Horse Ride from Maine to Florida , yes, that would be 1,641 miles on horseback.  I, am participating in this horse back ride to raise money to help women and children in their fight against domestic violence, as well as The Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo Scholarship Fund (www.billpickettrodeo.com). I have partnered with Doorways for Women and Families (www.doorwaysva.org), located in Arlington, Virginia to help facilitate this worthy cause.  I have challenged myself to raise $50,000.00 for the Doorways for Women and Families Domestic Violence fund and $50,000.00 for the Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo Scholarship fund. This is by far the greatest challenge I have set my mind to, and I am counting on your generosity and support to make this goal a reality.  

TOP 10 REASONS TO HELP ME RAISE MONEY FOR THESE CAUSES:

1.         Because in this country, 95% of domestic violence victims are women.

2.         Because every 9 seconds in the United States, a woman is beaten.

3.        Because 50% of all homeless women and children are fleeing domestic violence.

4.         Because the United States has 1,500 shelters for battered women and 3,800 shelters for animal.

5.         Because no ethnic or socioeconomic group is the source of domestic violence in this country.  It equally affects people of African, European, Hispanic, or Asian origin, who are rich or poor, college graduates or high school dropouts, no woman is immune to the risk of being abused.

6.         Because those who are recipients of the Bill Pickett Rodeo Scholarship Fund need your support and to give those coming behind them an opportunity at achieving a higher education.

7.         Because not every child is going to become a famous sports player, a doctor or a lawyer.

8.         Because ALL donations (large and small) make a difference.

9.         Because 1641 miles on horseback is a long ride, but knowing I have your support will help me meet this challenge.

10.       Because until there is a cure for domestic violence and college tuition decreases, we should all want the scales to tip in favor of a life changing opportunity.
